Department of Human Rights

The Department of Human Rights is responsible for:

• Providing opinions and advice on human rights matters referred to it.
• Giving opinions on draft and existing international human rights conventions that the State wishes to join, in coordination with the Ministry's Department of Legal Affairs and the competent authorities of the State.
• Taking part in preparing the State's human rights reports under international conventions, and submitting them to the relevant international monitoring bodies, in coordination with the Ministry's Department of Legal Affairs.
• Preparing studies, research and reports related to human rights, in cooperation with the competent authorities of the State.
• Preparing appropriate responses to reports by international governmental and non-governmental organisations on the human rights situation in the State, in coordination with the competent authorities, and sending them to those organisations.
• Preparing responses to reports by foreign governments on the human rights situation in the State, in coordination with the competent authorities, and communicating them to those governments.
• Keeping the missions abroad informed of human rights developments in the State.
• Following human rights issues locally and internationally, following meetings and activities held by regional, Arab and international organisations in the field of human rights, and coordinating the involvement of the relevant units of the Ministry and the competent authorities of the State.
• Referring human rights complaints received from abroad to the competent authorities, and following them up.
• Preparing plans and proposals to benefit from the advisory services and technical assistance offered by international organisations and bodies in the field of human rights.
• Representing the Ministry in human rights bodies.
