The Department of African Affairs is responsible for:
- Promoting and developing bilateral relations between the State and African countries in the political, economic, cultural, technical and other fields, and following developments in these countries.
- Studying and analysing reports and research received from the missions in African countries, and taking the necessary action on them.
- Studying and following up on matters, topics, reports and research referred to it concerning conditions, developments and relations between the State and African countries.
- Following up on and guiding the activities of the missions in African countries.
- Coordinating, following up on and developing relations with the diplomatic missions of African countries accredited to the State.
- Following what newspapers in African countries publish about matters of interest to the State, analysing it, and advising on any arrangements or recommendations needed, in coordination with the Ministry's Media and Communication Department.
- Following bulletins and publications issued by the diplomatic missions of African countries accredited to the State, and giving any necessary opinions or comments, in coordination with the Ministry's Media and Communication Department.
- Coordinating with African regional organisations and the relevant bodies in the State, and giving an opinion on all matters referred to it concerning cooperation with these organisations, in coordination with the Ministry's Department of International Organizations.
- Preparing for and taking part in joint committees with African countries, and following up on the implementation of their decisions.
- Coordinating with the Department of Legal Affairs on preparing draft agreements to be concluded with African countries.
- Preparing reports on the State's relations with African countries, and keeping the information in them up to date.
- Preparing, following up on and coordinating visits by the State's high-level official delegations to African countries, and any reports requested on them.
- Preparing, following up on and coordinating official visits to the State by high-level delegations from African countries, and any reports requested on them.
- Preparing periodic reports on the activities of the missions in African countries.
