Doha - July 23, 2024

The State of Qatar condemns the Israeli Knesset's preliminary approval of a bill that would label the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization.

The State of Qatar considers this act a flagrant violation of international laws and norms, and an extension of the systematic campaign that aims to dismantle the agency, at a time when there is a dire need for its humanitarian services due to the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs renews the State of Qatar's call for the international community to stand firmly in the face of Israeli plans aimed at liquidating the agency and depriving millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon of its necessary services.

The Ministry reiterates the State of Qatar's full support for UNRWA, based on its firm and steadfast position on the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, at the foremost of which is their right to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
