Joint Statement Announcing the Inauguration of the Qatar-UK Strategic Dialogue

Following the meeting today between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and British Foreign Secretary The Rt Hon Liz Truss, the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom announced their intention to commence an annual Strategic Dialogue between the two countries, and agreed to hold the first Strategic Dialogue in the first quarter of 2022 in London.

 

The Strategic Dialogue highlights the strength of their bilateral relationship and the mutually beneficial opportunities for the peoples of both countries to deepen cooperation.

The State of Qatar and the United Kingdom are mutual partners in developing closer trade and investment, defence and security, technology, counterterrorism cooperation, public health, the climate change crisis, energy, culture, sport and education promoting peace and security with friends and allies around the globe. This includes infrastructure and investment for the developing world.

Developing ties at the level of a Strategic Dialogue allows both countries to operate from a position of strength in the international arena facilitating and helping address issues of mutual concern for development and sustainability, the climate change crisis, conflict resolution and issues of defence and security.

The State of Qatar and the United Kingdom believe their enduring mutual cooperation will benefit the interests of both countries, as well as the rest of the world as we build back better and fairer from the global pandemic.
