Doha, November 05, 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a side event on Wednesday on women's role in peacebuilding: voices from the Arab region, on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development, held in Doha.
In her remarks, HE Director of International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani highlighted the importance that Qatar attaches to strengthening the role of women in mediation and conflict resolution efforts, and its commitment to the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. She noted that Qatar joined the UN Secretary-General's campaign last year, "Common Pledge for Women's Full, Equal and Meaningful Participation in Peace Processes."
Participants in the event included UN Under-Secretary-General and UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous; HE Minister of Social Development of the State of Palestine Dr. Samah Hamad; and HE Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Office of the State of Kuwait and a member of the Arab Network for Women Peace Mediators Jawaher Al Sabah.
The event highlighted the experiences and contributions of Arab women peace mediators in the field of conflict prevention and resolution in post-conflict contexts, and reflected on the successes and lessons learned from their participation at the local and regional levels.
