Qatar Participates in the Preparatory Media Briefing for the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha

The State of Qatar took part in the preparatory media briefing for the upcoming Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled to be held in Doha from 4 to 6 November 2025.
The State of Qatar was represented at the briefing by Her Excellency Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations.
Also participating in the briefing was Her Excellency Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Her Excellency Sheikha Alya stated that Qatar, as the host state of the Second World Summit for Social Development, is honored to welcome the international community and more than 8,000 participants — including heads of state and government, ministers, representatives of the United Nations, civil society, academia, the private sector, and youth — to reaffirm the shared commitment to social justice and to placing human beings at the center of sustainable development.
She added that the Summit, marking thirty years since the Copenhagen Conference, represents a unique opportunity to renew the collective pledge to social development and inclusion, and to accelerate progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing that this gathering constitutes a pivotal moment in the global social development agenda.
Her Excellency noted that the Summit will culminate in the adoption of the Doha Political Declaration, which reaffirms the interconnection between eradicating poverty, ensuring decent work for all, and achieving social inclusion as essential pillars of sustainable development.
She expressed Qatar’s confidence that the Summit will produce practical and constructive commitments, including concrete pledges aimed at advancing social justice, empowering vulnerable groups, and driving sustainable development globally.
For her part, Her Excellency the President of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly stated that Qatar plays a pivotal role in advancing the global development agenda through its hosting of the Second World Summit for Social Development, which comes at a critical juncture requiring intensified efforts to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, promote social justice, and empower communities.
She added that the Summit will help launch a new phase of international cooperation aimed at translating commitments into tangible action, underscoring the importance of strengthening partnerships among governments, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector to build more sustainable societies.
Her Excellency expressed the United Nations’ appreciation to the State of Qatar for hosting this important Summit, affirming that its convening will contribute to shaping practical and actionable solutions that will benefit all peoples and communities, address the root causes of poverty, and advance social justice and development.
