Qatar Hosts GCTF's Coordinating Committee Meeting

The State of Qatar hosted on Wednesday the 25th meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) and its accompanying meetings and side events, co-chaired by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the European Union (EU), and with the participation of 32 countries and international organizations.
HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab chaired the State of Qatar's delegation to the meeting.
In his opening remarks, HE the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the State of Qatar's renewed hosting of the meeting reflects its firm commitment to being an active GCTF member, pointing out that Qatar worked to create a conducive environment for having a fruitful meeting, as is customary for Doha when hosting effective international gatherings.
His Excellency added that the meeting provided an important opportunity for the Forum's members and partners to deepen cooperation, align priorities, and guide GCTF's strategic direction in terms of planning, initiatives, projects, and its working groups' vital work.
The State of Qatar considers counterterrorism in Africa a priority within its broader commitment as a partner to African nations, His Excellency continued, adding that Qatar contributes to addressing the root causes of violent extremism by promoting peace, stability, and conflict resolution.
Through its governmental and specialized bodies, Qatar supports education, employment, livelihood improvement, and disaster recovery, in recognition of the value of multilateral work, His Excellency said, noting that the State of Qatar is one of the largest partners and donors to the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), supporting many global programs and initiatives, a significant portion of which focus on capacity-building and providing technical assistance in African countries.
HE the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Qatar actively participates in international and regional efforts to combat terrorism, stressing the State of Qatar's unwavering commitment to collective action under the GCTF umbrella to contribute to these efforts.
