Geneva, October 16, 2025
HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah has participated in a roundtable organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) entitled "A Billion Reasons to Embrace Inclusive Sport," in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office at Geneva, as part of Geneva Peace Week.
In her remarks during the roundtable discussions, Her Excellency emphasized that promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities in sports is an integral part of the State of Qatar's commitment to human rights, equality, and empowerment.
She noted that Qatar National Vision 2030 places their participation at the heart of comprehensive development, and Law No. 22 of 2025 on Persons with Disabilities promotes dignity, equality, non-discrimination, and full inclusion in society.
Her Excellency announced that Doha will host the Fourth World Summit on Disability in Doha in 2028 in cooperation with the International Disability Alliance.
She added that Qatar has a proven track record of success in the Paralympic Games, noting that its athletes have won medals at Paralympic Games such as Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Doha also hosted the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships, which was the largest Paralympic sporting event in the Middle East at the time.
She explained that the Qatar Paralympic Committee plays a key role in supporting athletes with disabilities and encouraging them to practice sports, given its positive physical and psychological impact. It also contributes to their integration into society and the acquisition of new physical and social skills, enhancing their self-confidence and ability to effect positive change in society's perception of them.
She added that the participation of persons with disabilities in sports programs and physical activities effectively contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being, Goal 5 on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, and Goal 10 on reducing inequalities.
The State of Qatar highlighted its efforts on the international stage through the resolution it submitted to the Human Rights Council entitled "Empowering women and girls in and through sport," which was unanimously adopted in July 2025.
The resolution called for enhancing the participation of women and girls with disabilities in sporting activities, stressing that this commitment is embodied in Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy, which emphasize the importance of building an active and healthy society and using sport as a tool to promote tolerance, social integration, and human well-being
