New York, July 29

The State of Qatar affirmed that the High-Level Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution represents an important opportunity to renew international commitment to a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.

This came in a statement delivered by HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi at the closing session of the working groups of the High-Level Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

His Excellency noted that since the announcement of the conference, the State of Qatar has sought to support it and actively participate in the preparatory process, specifically by co-chairing, with Canada and Mexico, the third working group on narratives of peace.

He added that the State of Qatar continuously strives to promote peaceful, just, and inclusive societies, to establish the roots of peace through a culture of peace, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence, and to support development, meaningful education, and the role of youth.

His Excellency affirmed that the State of Qatar hopes that the consultative processes of the working groups will lead the conference to produce objective outcomes that crystallize the international community's commitment to its responsibility toward resolving the Palestinian issue. These outcomes will serve as a starting point for future steps and a basis for sustainable international engagement.

HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs noted that the State of Qatar hopes the conference will contribute to supporting the establishment of an independent, sovereign, contiguous, and viable Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, which will enjoy international recognition and the UN membership it deserves.
