Qatar Affirms Women's Presence in Diplomacy Reflects Strategic Investment in Their Potential

Geneva, June 24, 2025
The State of Qatar affirmed that women's participation in diplomacy is not merely a form of social empowerment, but a strategic investment in their potential. Women possess unique capabilities in communication, negotiation, trust-building, and offering innovative perspectives to address global challenges, making them essential partners in international negotiation efforts and peacebuilding.
This came in Qatar's statement delivered by First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar in Geneva, Sara Abdulaziz Al Khater, during the annual full-day discussion on women's human rights, Session II: Commemorating International Day of Women in Diplomacy, with a focus on overcoming barriers to women's leadership in peace processes, under Item 3 of the 59th session of the Human Rights Council.
Al Khater emphasized Qatar's commitment to negotiation diplomacy and peacebuilding, highlighting the country's efforts to empower Qatari women to engage and excel in diplomatic careers. She noted that this is achieved by fostering an enabling environment - beginning with sustained investment in education, capacity building, and the development of supportive political and legal frameworks that ensure equal access to leadership positions and active participation in political decision-making.
She also stressed the critical importance of including women in peacebuilding and peacekeeping processes, as their involvement is key to achieving just, inclusive, and sustainable peace. Al Khater noted that Qatar worked to prepare and empower young Qatari women in diplomacy through the Junior Professionals Program, which offers training opportunities within United Nations agencies, and also strengthened their presence within official delegations participating in treaty negotiations and international reporting discussions.
