The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its support for the agreement to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces into the institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic, considering this as a significant step toward strengthening civil peace, improving security and stability, and building a state based on institutions and the rule of law.

This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by Ms. Jawhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, Chargé d'Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to Geneva, during her participation in the "Interactive Dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, (Item 4) at the fifty-eighth session of the Human Rights Council.

Al Suwaidi welcomed the issuance of the Constitutional Declaration, highlighting its provisions on the separation of powers, the establishment of a committee to draft a permanent constitution, the pursuit of transitional justice, and the protection of the freedoms and rights of all Syrians. She expressed hope that the declaration would serve as the first step in a Syrian-led political process aimed at building a state of institutions and strengthening civil peace.

She stated that it is time for Syrians to live in safety and security and achieve their legitimate aspirations, especially after the decades of suffering they have endured and the heinous violations and crimes they have faced." She stressed the need to continue providing support to enhance security and stability, promote and protect human rights, and ensure accountability for all those responsible for the violations and crimes committed against the Syrian people.

She also called on the international community to continue providing humanitarian and development support, lift sanctions, stop Israeli attacks, and put an end to its occupation of Syrian territory.

She thanked the committee members for their report and expressed appreciation for the visits conducted by the committee, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and other UN mechanisms to Syria, especially after the previous Syrian regime's refusal to allow such visits. She expressed hope that these efforts would contribute to the establishment of a new Syria.
