Qatar Reaffirms Firm Stance in Supporting Unity and Sovereignty of Sudan, Rejecting any Interference in Internal Affairs

Geneva| February 18, 2025
The State of Qatar reaffirmed its firm and steadfast stance in supporting the unity, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the sisterly Republic of Sudan, rejecting any form of interference in its internal affairs.
Qatar reiterated its commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations and various humanitarian agencies and organizations to enable them to address all the challenges and difficulties they face in implementing their humanitarian programs and activities in Sudan. Qatar also called on the international community to intensify its efforts and provide additional urgent support and adequate funding for Sudan's Humanitarian Needs Response Plan and Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRP).
This came in the State of Qatar's statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, at the joint launch of the 2025 Sudan Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan and Regional Refugee Response Plan.
Her Excellency pointed out that since the beginning of the crisis, and based on its humanitarian and fraternal duty, the State of Qatar has been keen to continue providing all forms of support and humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, and has participated in co-hosting the High-level Pledging Event to Support the Humanitarian Response in Sudan and the Region in 2023, as well as launching an airbridge to deliver humanitarian aid to Sudanese brothers and evacuate some Qatari residency holders.
Her Excellency noted that the State of Qatar's total contributions to Sudan since the outbreak of the war exceeded 75 million USD, including providing humanitarian and developmental assistance, supplying food aid to those in need, supporting the Sudanese Red Crescent's capacity-building efforts, protecting and restoring family ties, providing necessary assistance to the Republic of South Sudan for those who fled the conflict in Sudan, and supporting employment and livelihoods projects, particularly by enhancing agriculture and food security for vulnerable and conflict-affected populations. Qatari humanitarian charitable organizations, such as Qatar Charity, Qatar Red Crescent, and Silatech, have contributed to providing many forms of relief and development aid in various sectors, HE added.
HE Al Muftah expressed the State of Qatar's deep concern about the ongoing war in Sudan since April 2023, which has led to unprecedented catastrophic deterioration in the humanitarian, economic, social, and security conditions across the country, as well as severe damage to infrastructure, the collapse of essential services, especially in education and healthcare, an increasing number of those in need of relief aid, and rising numbers of displaced persons and refugees, the majority of whom are women and children.
The Permanent Representative of Qatar to Geneva emphasized that this situation requires the conflict parties to prioritize Sudan's national interests, work towards an immediate ceasefire, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and engage in serious dialogue to avoid further risks, leading to a comprehensive dialogue that will bring about sustainable peace and preserve Sudan's unity while fulfilling the aspirations of its people for security, stability, and development.
Her Excellency thanked the organizers of the meeting and praised the efforts of the United Nations to assist the brotherly Sudanese people, alleviate their suffering, and meet their growing needs. She pointed out that Sudan is currently classified as one of the largest humanitarian crises, with an estimated 30 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.
