Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Upholding the Rights of Women and Girls
Geneva, June 24, 2024
The State of Qatar has reiterated its unwavering stance in support of enhancing the enjoyment of all rights for women and girls, grounded in the principles of equality, justice, and fairness. This affirmation was made in a statement delivered by Fatima Al Mannai, Second Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, as part of the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Qatar has placed significant emphasis on protecting women and girls from all forms of violence, Al Mannai highlighted noting that Qatar has worked through a societal and institutional framework, based on religious teachings and cultural values, to uphold the dignity of women and elevate their status and role in society. She expressed Qatar's strong condemnation of all acts of violence and discrimination against women and girls, regardless of the perpetrators, locations, or identities of the victims.
Al Mannai also voiced concern over the ongoing prevalence of violence and exploitation against women and girls, including those facilitated by modern technology and artificial intelligence. She emphasized the importance of providing equal access to quality education for women and girls, as well as fair and safe employment opportunities.
Al Mannai stressed the need to address the root causes that lead to the vulnerability of women and girls, and to prevent their involvement in activities where their rights and dignity are not respected.
