The State of Qatar participates in the 34th Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea

The State of Qatar participated in the 34th Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, held in New York from June 10 to 14.
In the State of Qatar’s statement, under Item 8 - “Report of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea to the Meeting of States Parties,” Ms. Mariam Nasser Al-Hail, Secretary of the Standing Committee of the Convention on the Law of the Sea, and member of the Delegation of the State of Qatar participating in the meeting, thanked His Excellency Judge Tomas Heidar, President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea for his report on the activities of the tribunal in the year 2023 stressing the State of Qatar’s full support to the International Tribunal being a cornerstone of the dispute settlement procedures stipulated in the convention. Ms. Al-Hail also noted the role played by the Tribunal in bringing countries back to the negotiating table and working peacefully and constructively.
She also called for the expansion of the languages used in the Tribunal's capacity-building programs and the adoption of Arabic as a working language alongside other languages.
