MOFA's International Organizations Department Organizes Introductory Workshop on UN House Offices
Doha, June 05, 2024
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)'s Department of International Organizations organized Wednesday an introductory workshop that aimed to create cooperation between national agencies and the offices of the Doha-based United Nations House.
Delivering an inaugural speech, HE Director of MOFA's International Organizations Department Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani, said the State of Qatar has a distinguished role as a strategic partner of the UN, with Doha affirming the importance of joint international action and cooperation to achieve goals that will benefit present and future generations.
Her Excellency added that the State of Qatar believes in consolidating the lofty principles under which the UN was established and boosting cooperation and partnership with the UN and its affiliated agencies as a key Qatari foreign policy priority.
Her Excellency added that the close Qatar-UN cooperation over the previous decade developed a bilateral partnership that led to a proposal to set up a Doha-based UN House and the ensuing consultations between the MOFA and the UN agencies on its form.
Her Excellency added that Qatar's work went beyond the opening of the UN House to hosting 13 UN offices, with requests to host more. Yet, she elaborated that this hosting and these efforts would be pointless unless Qatar's national agencies were the primary beneficiaries of this initiative.
Her Excellency added that the UN offices' projects contribute to empowering and strengthening the national cadres, providing expertise and technical assistance, and cooperation at the national and international levels.
Her Excellency called on the heads and staff of UN offices in Doha to exert further efforts to create innovative areas of cooperation between national stakeholders and UN offices, and to maintain the continuity of this cooperation, and expand its scope and beneficiaries.
Her Excellency stressed that the presence of these offices is based on Qatar's confidence in the projects and expertise they will provide, as the State of Qatar believes in the principle of work and international cooperation under the UN umbrella to achieve common goals.
Meanwhile, the heads and representatives of the UN offices in Doha expressed their deep thanks and appreciation for the State of Qatar's efforts to ensure the success of the UN projects and its various activities in all fields. They also appreciated the State of Qatar's great commitment to strengthening partnership with the UN, with the establishment of the UN House as one of its outcomes.
They spoke about the key programs and projects being implemented, voicing hopes the distinguished Qatar-UN partnership would continue to help millions in desperate need worldwide.
They highlighted the various humanitarian crises and challenges currently facing the world and the State of Qatar's generous support for the implementation of many UN programs and projects over the past years.
They also highlighted the role of these offices in creating clear communication channels for continuous dialogue between national entities and UN offices to work towards establishing a constructive partnership.
