Qatar, UN Sign Four Agreements

The State of Qatar has signed four agreements with the United Nations, in the presence of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, on the sidelines of the 19th Doha Forum, which concluded recently in Doha.

HE Director of International Organization's Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yousef Larm and HE Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba signed a to establish in Doha a center for analysis and communication affiliated to Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict office.

The tasks of the center will be related to research and writing, and the organization of technical workshops on training needs to enhance knowledge and skills related to the protection of children affected by conflict.

The State of Qatar and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) signed a letter of intent to establish an office for the UNDP in Doha.

HE Director of International Organization's Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yousef Larm and HE Administrator of the UNDP Achim Steiner signed the letter of intent.

Also, the State of Qatar signed an agreement with the UNDP to support the junior professional officer program of the UNDP. HE Director of International Organization's Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yousef Larm and HE Administrator of the UNDP Achim Steiner signed the agreement.

The State of Qatar and United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) signed a letter of intent to establish an OCHA office in Doha to coordinate effective and principled humanitarian work in partnership with national and international actors, defending the rights of those in need, strengthening regionalism and prevention, and facilitating sustainable solutions.

Moreover, the State of Qatar and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to open an office for the Alliance in Doha, to enhance cooperation between the State of Qatar and the UNAOC. HE Director of International Organization's Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yousef Larm and HE High-Representative for the UNAOC Miguel Angel Moratinos signed the MoU.

The agreements aim to enhance partnership and cooperation between the State of Qatar and the UN. It also demonstrates the important and effective role that the State of Qatar plays in the UN to achieve the goals of the UN Charter and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals as well as to maintain international peace and security.
