Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UN Office on Youth Sign MoU

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed Saturday evening a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth to support cooperation in joint programs and projects on the sidelines of the 2nd Doha Forum Youth Edition.

HE Director of Department of International Organizations Dr. Yousef bin Sultan Laram and UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth Jayathma Wickramanayake signed the MoU.

HE Dr. Yousef bin Sultan Laram explained that the MoU aims to support the Office of the UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth, for three years, including cooperative support in programs and projects of common interest that are agreed upon between the two sides. He pointed out that the duration of the MoU is renewable with the consent of the parties and there will be a follow-up to the progress of these programs and projects in addition to holding periodic consultative meetings.

He noted that cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Office of the Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth is not new, as there have been previous cooperation, including Qatar's support for the peace and security conference held in the first half of 2019. He pointed out that this cooperation contributes to the enhancement of the efforts of the State of Qatar in its strategy and relationship with the UN, especially that in recent years many agreements have been signed between the two parties in various fields, all of which are aimed at strengthening relations with the UN.

For her part, UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth Jayathma Wickramanayake said that the partnership with the State of Qatar comes within the framework of enabling the participation of young people in several areas, especially achieving sustainable development and participation in achieving security and peace.
