Qatar Fund for Development Signs USD 2 Million Grant Agreement with United Nations

Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the United Nations signed a grant agreement worth USD 2 million over a period of two years, to the core budget of the reinvigorated resident coordinator system in the context of the reform of the United Nations development system to better support the Agenda for Sustainable Development.

HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, signed the agreement on behalf of Qatar Fund for Development, . The resident coordinator system serves as the cornerstone of a repositioned UN development system, that will drive coherence and integration of UN development action on the ground on a scale that responds to national needs and priorities, and work with UN specialized agencies, funds and programmes to enhance accountability, transparency and reporting on results at the country level.

"The main objective of Qatar Fund for Development is to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development," said, HE Director General of Qatar Fund for Development Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari.

HE added: "the contribution for the reinvigorated resident coordinator system is a big step toward achieving this goal. We are proud to cooperate with this important partner to contribute and to enhance accountability, transparency and achieving results across the United Nations system and providing greater incentives for integrated action."

HE United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, said that:" the United Nations development system reform and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals must be carried by everyone, United Nations and Member States alike.

Her Excellency added that voluntary contributions by Member States, such as the Qatar Fund for Development, are fundamental to strengthening our structures and operations for more impactful results for people.
