Qatar Affirms Commitment to Strengthening International Partnership in Crises and Natural Disasters

The State of Qatar has affirmed Monday its responsibility and commitment to strengthening regional and international partnership and to continue its role in providing development and relief assistance to countries facing economic and humanitarian crises and natural disasters, in addition to the official development assistance.

The State of Qatar stressed that, despite its unjust and inhuman blockade, it would continue to be an active partner in the international community by working and partnering with the international community to address the challenges and areas of common concern in pursuit of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.

This came in a speech by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi at the opening session of the Economic and Social Council Forum on Follow-up to Financing for Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. His Excellency highlighted Qatar's hosting of a High-Level Conference in November 2017, held in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs on Financing for Development and the means to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan. He added that hosting the meeting reflected the State of Qatar's continued partnership with the international community in this regard. Doha had also hosted the International Follow-up Conference on Financing for Development in 2008 to review the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus and drew attention to the "10 Doha messages," aimed at strengthening cooperation for the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan and the Addis Ababa Action Plan.

HE Al Muraikhi said that the importance of the Doha conference was the document issued by the Doha Round of Letters, which reiterated the commitment of member states to work according to the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan and the Addis Ababa Plan Action. It also highlighted the importance of international development cooperation that brings together all actors in the context of achieving sustainable development.

His Excellency added that in the light of the humanitarian and developmental challenges facing the world, the Doha letters reaffirmed the international community's commitment addressing these challenges together in order to achieve the growth the world aspires to by eradicating poverty and delivering aid to the most needy, increasing investment in water infrastructure Energy efficiency, and improving resource efficiency and environmental resource management. His Excellency stressed that the 10 Doha messages were a substantive contribution to the outcome of the New York meeting.
