Qatar Affirms Support for All Efforts Aiming at Achieving Comprehensive Cease-Fire in Syria

The State of Qatar has affirmed its support for all efforts aiming at achieving a comprehensive cease-fire in Syria and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need, thus contributing to a political solution to the crisis on the basis of the Geneva Declaration and the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, in particular resolution 2254, and ensures the realization of the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people who came out for that peacefully, and received no answer from the Syrian regime except killing, destruction and gross violations of human rights.
This came in the speech delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al-Mansouri, during the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, under item 4 of the current session of the Human Rights Council.
HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva stressed that the Syrian regime and its allies are targeting civilians and civil facilities, especially hospitals and schools, in a flagrant violation of all international laws related to the excessive use of force, chemical weapons which are internationally prohibited, blockade and starvation, prevent humanitarian access as a method of warfare, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, torture, murder and other human rights violations.
HE also pointed out that the Syrian justice system as well as the international community failed to achieve justice and fairness for the victims and to hold accountable those responsible for the violations and crimes committed against the Syrian people, stressing that the continued impunity of the Syrian regime encourages it to further commit further violations, as well as it is negatively affecting the political negotiation process and reaching a permanent solution to end the conflict in the country.
HE called for greater support for the impartial and independent international mechanism to assist in the investigation of crimes in Syria in order to enable it to carry out its mandate.
At the end of his speech, HE Permanent Representative of the
State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al-Mansouri, thanked the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic for its report on the situation in Syria, stressing that the findings of the Commission's investigations reaffirms facts that are known to all and can not be denied or ignored.
