Qatar Says Fulfilling Nuclear Disarmament Commitments Enhances Global Security

The State of Qatar said that the full and comprehensive implementation of country commitments in the area of non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament helps in enhancing nuclear security across the world, expressing appreciation for the central role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in this regard all over the world.

HE Ambassador Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani, the State of Qatar's ambassador to the Republic of Austria and permanent representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, made the remarks before the ongoing IAEA's Board of Governors meeting in Vienna.

HE Ambassador Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani stressed that the nuclear security is a joint responsibility of all countries and it concerns the international community, highlighting the need to address its national and regional dimensions.

He added that the State of Qatar calls for expanding the participation of countries in IAEA's projects and research related to nuclear security so as to sustain nuclear security systems and develop them as well as enhance regional and non-regional initiatives and activities in this regard.

Concluding his address, HE the ambassador stressed that finding national effective systems of nuclear security helps in developing the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and promoting international efforts of combating nuclear terrorism. He called for paying more attention to the issue of nuclear security due to its relation to international peace and security.
