Arab League Council Committed to Syria's Sovereignty, Territorial Unity

The Arab League Council at the foreign ministers' level stressed at the end of its 148th regular session on Tuesday its firm commitment to preserving Syria's sovereignty and territorial unity as well as its stability and regional security in line with the Arab League Charter and its principles.
In its final statement on developments in Syria, the council reiterated its firm stance that political solution is the only way out of the crisis with the participation of all Syrian parties so as to achieve the ambitions of the Syrian people based on Geneva I communique in June 2012 and the decision and statements issued in this regard, particularly Security Council Resolution 2254.
The Arab foreign ministers expressed their support for the U.N. efforts to hold Geneva meetings so as to reach a political settlement for the Syrian crisis and inviting the Arab League to cooperate with the United Nations to make succeed the U.N.-sponsored negotiations to end the dispute and establish peace and stability in the country.
Meanwhile, the Arab League Council expressed its deep concern over the situation of the Yazidi women who are kidnapped by ISIS, stressing solidarity with them in this hardship, which they considered a crime against humanity.
The council also praised the role of the Iraqi troops taking part in the liberation of Mosul as they were able to free some of the kidnapped Yazidi women. The council agreed to permanently include an item on the support of Yazidi abductees on the agenda of the council at the ministerial level.
The State of Qatar participated in the 148th session of the Arab League Council at the foreign ministers' level with a delegation led by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.
