FAO Director General Meets Qatar's Ambassador to Italy

Rome/Information Office/ 12 May 2016/ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director General Jose Graziano da Silva met Thursday with HE Qatar's Ambassador to Italy Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki Al Jehani, who also Qatar's permanent representative to the U.N. agencies in Rome. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest. HE the ambassador expressed Qatar's support for FAO in combating poverty, hunger and food shortage, as well as development policies and technical cooperation among member states. He stressed the importance of developing aspects of cooperation between Qatar and the organization, particularly in the issues of water, soil reclamation, climate change, plant protection, research and field studies. In turn, the FAO director general voiced his appreciation for Qatar's role in the organization and its constant financial and technical support for FAO policies and programs across many countries. He added that he looks forward to reviewing a group of U.N. activities that the organization can do in Doha, especially in the fields of training, workshops, management, and information systems. HE Ambassador Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki Al Jehani is leading Qatar's delegation to the 33rd session of FAO's regional conference for the Near East, which concludes Friday in Rome.
