Qatar Reaffirms Support for UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

Geneva/ Information Office/ 18 November 2015/ The State of Qatar has reaffirmed that it will spare no effort to participate actively in promoting the United Nations' Protect, Respect and Remedy Guiding Principles and to cooperate with the team on Business and Human Rights, through its membership in the Human Rights Council and the organs the United Nations and regional organizations. This came in a speech delivered by HE the Director of the Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Committee Sheikh Khalid bin Jassim Al Thani before closing session of the high-level 4th Annual United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights, held in Geneva today. HE Sheikh Khalid bin Jassim Al-Thani pointed that the implementation of the 'Protect, Respect and Remedy Guiding Principles' represents the road map in the field of business and human rights, to all stakeholders. He expressed hope that Asian Forum on Business and Human Rights which will be hosted by the State of Qatar on 19-20 April 2016 would contribute to shedding more light and giving profound understanding on these principles, as well as to discuss challenges facing the stakeholders in implementing them, in the Asian continent in addition to determining the best practices and experiences in the business and human rights sector.
