Arab League Council Adopts Draft Resolution Calling on Iran to Stop Interfering in Internal affairs of Arab Countries

Cairo / Information Office/ 09 September 2015/ The Arab League Council at the end of its meeting at the level of permanent delegates today adopts a draft resolution calling for Iran to stop interfering in the internal affairs of Arab countries, as that would undermine the confidence-building and threaten security and stability in the region. The draft resolution presented by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the title "Iranian interference in neighboring countries", would be submitted to the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers for approval on Sunday. The draft resolution stressed the importance of relations of cooperation between the Arab countries and Iran, based on the principle of good-neighborliness, and to refrain from the use or threat of force. The Council expresses its condemnation of Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries as a violation of the rules of international law, and the principle of good neighborliness .. The Member States call for raising this issue in its contacts with other countries, and the inclusion of this item as a standing item on the agenda of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level. The draft resolution also asked the Secretary-General of the Arab League to follow up the implementation of the resolution and to report to the Council at its next session in March 2016, in coordination with the Member States. The State of Qatar participated in the meeting with a delegation headed by its Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Delegate to the Arab League HE Saif bin Muqaddam Al Buainain, as well as HE Qatar's Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, who is also Chairman of Council of Arab Ambassadors in Vienna.
