AlAttiyah: 34th GCC Ministerial Meeting Discusses Joint Action and Bilateral Cooperation

Riyadh/ Information Office/ 12 March 2015/ HE Qatar's Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah affirmed that the 34th ministerial council of the Gulf Cooperation Council meeting tackled the following up of the implementation of the decisions and directives of GCC leaders taken in Doha summit to enhance joint action and existing bilateral cooperation among GCC member States in various fields in addition to many topics relating to the political and security situation in the region. In an opening statement during a joint press conference with the GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani ,at the conclusion of the meeting, HE Dr. Al-Attiyah said that the situation in Yemen was given great importance by Their Highnesses and Excellencies GCC Foreign Ministers during the meeting. He added that Their Highnesses and Excellencies GCC Foreign Ministers praised the decision by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for hosting the Yemeni dialogue. HE Dr. Al Attiyah noted that the Palestinian issue was among top priorities of the topics that were discussed at the meeting in the light of the continuing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and the violations perpetrated against the Palestinian people and their holy sites, with stressing the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent State with East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative. The Syrian crisis was tackled during the meeting with stressing GCC countries' firm stance to stand by the Syrian people politically and materially in their painful ordeal until achieving their legitimate demands to freedom and change, HE Al-Attiyah added. Al-Attiyah called on the international community to set right to the Syrian people , avoiding double standards in this regard and to find a political solution that complies with their will through formation a national government with full powers in accordance with the principles of the Geneva convention set out in paragraphs 1. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of preserving Libya's security, stability and territorial integrity , ending the ongoing violence and finding a political solution that meets aspirations of the Libyan people and that the GCC countries' support to Libyan dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations. The terrorism phenomenon was also discussed at the meeting and that the GCC nations reiterated their positions on rejecting terrorism in all its forms ,origin, causes and work seriously to address its real reasons without access to partial solutions, he said. The Foreign Minister noted that the meeting also dealt with the situation in Iraq , stressing GCC countries' support to the Iraqi people to counter terrorism until realization of Iraq's stability and sovereignty over its territorial integrity.
