Qatar Participates in Third South Summit General Discussion Session

The State of Qatar participated in the general discussion session of the Third South Summit, held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi represented the State of Qatar at the Summit.
His Excellency delivered the State of Qatar's speech before the session saying that ever since October 7, the brotherly Palestinian people have been subject to an unprecedented aggression, reiterating the State of Qatar's supportive stance of the Palestinian people's inalienable right to self-determinate and to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as the Palestinian people's attainment of all of their rights. His Excellency added that this stance only does justice and is based on the respect of international law, the United Nations charter, and the relevant international legitimacy resolutions. Al Muraikhi said that this stance is in complete harmony with the G77's stance since its establishment, and indeed reflects the stance of the peace-loving peoples of the world.
His Excellency called for solidarity and the provision of humanitarian aid to the civilians of the Gaza Strip, most notably the hardest hit areas.
His Excellency said that developing countries must solidify their cooperation, joint action, and solidarity, in addition to stand united in order to face present day challenges.
Al Muraikhi indicated that the State of Qatar continues to attach importance to cooperation among the countries of the South and to strengthening the work of the Group of 77 and China.
HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs added that in March 2023, Qatar hosted the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which adopted the Doha Program of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2022-2031 (DPoA). Moreover, His Excellency added that on the sidelines of LDC5, the Ministerial Meeting on South-South Cooperation was also held.
His Excellency referred to the announcement of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani regarding the State of Qatars financial contribution amounting to USD 60 million, of which USD 10 million were allocated to support the implementation of DPoA for the Least Developed Countries, and another USD 50 million to support DPoA outcomes and enable Least Develop Countries to become more adaptive. Al Muraikhi added that the State of Qatar's development and humanitarian contributions as well as its emergency assistance provided to brotherly and friendly countries of the South continue, whereby the Qatar Fund For Development provided the countries of the South more than USD 7 Billions in the period between 2014 - 2024.
HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Group of 77 and China. Since its inception, the group has had a pioneering role in defending the interests of developing countries at the United Nations, and has achieved great successes in strengthening South-South cooperation, he noted.
Al Muraikhi reiterated the State of Qatar's support for the issues of the South, for which it continues to play an active role within the Group, embodying the principles of cooperation, solidarity, and joint action.
