The State of Qatar will take Part in Afghanistan Conference 2022, which will be held Thursday via video conferencing under the title "High-level Pledging Event on Supporting the Humanitarian Response in Afghanistan".
The delegation of the State of Qatar will be chaired by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.
The State of Qatar co-hosts the event in cooperation with Germany, the United Kingdom and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The conference is expected to discuss important topics regarding the humanitarian response in Afghanistan.
Speaking at a virtual press conference today, Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Official Spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari highlighted the role of the State of Qatar in Afghanistan, noting that the State hosted the talks between the United States and the Taliban, which resulted in an agreement between the two parties in 2020.

Qatar also hosted the intra-Afghan talks for a peaceful and inclusive transfer of power.
Dr. Majed Al Ansari added that the State of Qatar supported the Afghan people by providing humanitarian aid, and evacuated about 75,000 people from Afghanistan and provided them with a decent life in their temporary places of residence in Qatar before they reach their final destinations; explaining that only about 300 evacuates are still in Qatar.
Meanwhile, Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Official Spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari expressed Qatar's deep concern and disappointment over the decision of the caretaker government in Afghanistan to suspend study in secondary schools for girls until further notice. He underlined that these negative practices will have a profound impact on human rights, the development and the economy in Afghanistan, and reiterated Qatar's call for the Afghan caretaker government to review its decision in line with the teachings of the true Islamic religion regarding women's rights.
He also stressed the importance of continued humanitarian and development support to Afghanistan at this critical stage, and avoiding isolating it from the regional and international surroundings, warning that returning to isolating the Taliban and neglecting the suffering of the Afghan people will create a supportive environment for more extremism.
In conclusion, Dr. Majed Al Ansari said that Afghanistan will either turn into a lost cause or a beacon of hope. The international support and keeping channels of communication open is the only way to turn Afghanistan into a society that brings hope to its people.
The press conference was attended by HE UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, HE British Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the United Nations and Prime Ministers Special Representative Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, and HE Director-General for Crisis Prevention, Stabilization, Post-Conflict Peacebuilding, and Humanitarian Assistance at the German Federal Foreign Office Ricklef Beutin.
