Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Official Spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari participated today in a panel at Doha Forum 2022 entitled "Geopolitical Implications of the Russia-Ukraine War on the Middle East".
Speaking at the panel, Dr. Al Ansari renewed the State of Qatar's call for resolving differences through constructive dialogue and diplomatic means, settling international disputes by peaceful means, and avoiding anything that would lead to further escalation.
He affirmed Qatar's keenness on the United Nations Charter and the well-established principles of the international law, including the obligations under the Charter to settle international disputes by peaceful means, and the commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states.
He stressed the importance the international law constitutes for small states which makes all states equal, noting that Qatar's national interest requires that conflicts in the region not be prolonged and not be left without mediation or a solution so that their effects do not extend to Qatar and the region. He explained that the State of Qatar is active in a number of mediations to establish international peace and security.
In response to a question about the call for a new security order, Dr. Al Ansari pointed to a multipolar world that witnesses mistrust in major countries due to their failure to take a firm stance to stop conflicts, noting in this regard that the international law and human values are not applied to everyone equally. He believed that talking about a new security or a new international order must start through dialogue and diplomacy, and that the world is not ready now to talk about a new international security order.
Taking part in the panel were HE US Congresswoman Jane Harman, HE Spokesperson of the Turkish Presidency Ibrahim Kalin, HE Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Hassan Sheikholeslami, and HE Professor of Economics at the University of International Business and Economics Dr. John Gong. Lina Khatib, the Director of MENA Programme at Chatham House moderated the panel.
