Qatar Pledges LDC5 Success in Cooperation with Partners
New York – Information Office – 02 March
The State of Qatar pledged the success of the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) and is looking forward to hold the first part of the conference on Mar. 17, 2022 and adopt the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) for Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) after adopting a resolution submitted by the Group of 77 (G77) and China, in which the dates of the LDC5 were set under "Further modalities of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries."
According to the decision, the first part of the conference will be held in Doha on Mar. 17, and the second part of the conference will be held in Doha from Mar. 5-9, 2023, at the highest level in the presence of heads of state and government.
In light of the changing global scene and the increasing challenges that this poses, the adoption of DPoA for LDCs at an early date is extremely important, as this will allow the implementation of the DPoA to begin without further delay, Her Excellency said.
She stressed the importance of the DPoA as the first program to address the challenges associated with the repercussions of COVID-19 on the least developed countries, and what it also constitutes as a transformational program to bring about the desired change and build resilient societies, especially within the framework of the important and ambitious measures, initiatives and commitments it entails.
HE underlined that the success of the DPoA for LDCs requires collective action, concerted support and the support of all international partners. She also expressed Qatar's eagerness to hold the second part of the conference in Doha during the period from Mar. 5-9, 2023, at the highest possible level, including heads of state and government, as well as hold all activities and events planned during this segment.
HE Permanent Representative stressed Qatar's keenness and commitment to prepare and provide all the requirements for the success of the LDC5 as a milestone and transformational event to support the aspirations of the LDCs in their journey towards sustainable and inclusive development, adding that Qatar will remain fully committed to playing a valuable role in this important and vital global endeavor.
