109th Ministerial Session of the Arab Economic and Social Council Begins with Participation of Qatar

The 109th Ministerial Session of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League meeting started its work on Thursday at the Arab League General Secretariats headquarters, headed by Egypt and with the participation of Arab Ministers of Economy, Commerce and Finance.

The delegation of the State of Qatar at the session was headed by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Arab Republic of Egypt, its Permanent Representative to the Arab League Salem Mubarak Al Shafi.

The draft agenda includes several important articles, including the establishment of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Education Affairs, the economic and social files of the Arab Leagues Council in its 31st session, the 5th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Mauritania 2023, follow-up the implementation of the decisions of the 4th session of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Beirut in January 2019 and the Arab international cooperation in the social and development fields.

The draft agenda also includes an article on the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, the developments of the Customs Union, the mechanism of work of the committees concerned with Arab economic integration, investment in Arab countries, the agreement regulating technical and financial procedures for maritime transport of passengers and goods between Arab countries, supporting tourism innovation and smart tourism, an article on the establishment of an Arab Ministerial Council concerned with the affairs of local bodies (municipalities and village councils) in the Arab countries.

The preparatory meetings for this session concluded Wednesday with a meeting at the level of senior officials, in which the State of Qatar participated with a delegation representing the ministries of finance, commerce and industry, social affairs and family, and the General Authority of Customs. It was preceded by two separate meetings of the Economic and Social Committees of the Council.
