The State of Qatar Renews Commitment to Efforts Promoting a Culture of Peace

The State of Qatar has renewed its commitment to provide support for all efforts made to promote a culture of peace, welcoming all the measures taken by the United Nations system to encourage peace and interfaith dialogue, especially in light of the spread of fear, misinformation, the growing divisions between societies and the polarization of attitudes that they have caused, in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, which threatens international peace and security.
This came in the State of Qatar's statement read out by the Third Secretary at the State of Qatar's Permanent Mission to the United Nations HE Sheikha Almaha bint Mubarak Al-Thani as part of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly
The statement called on the international community to intensify efforts and to stand together in unity and solidarity in order to build just, peaceful and inclusive societies, able to recover better from this crisis.
It also affirmed Qatar's commitment to implementing the Declaration and Program of Action related to a culture of peace. In this context, it referred to a number of initiatives through which the State of Qatar contributes to promoting a culture of peace at the national, regional and international levels, which are derived from the social, religious and cultural heritage. The statement also singled out education as an essential element in instilling and nurturing a culture of peace.
The statement added that Qatar will host on Jan. 20-21 next year a high-level global conference on comprehensive peace paths for youth, which will be held "remotely" due to the global health crisis, in cooperation with Finland, Colombia, the office of the UN Secretary-General's envoy on youth and Education Above All Foundation. The statement expressing Qatar's confidence that this conference will be a turning point for youth, peace and security agenda through its important outputs, namely the launch of guidelines to support the implementation of this agenda at national levels, and the launch of a five-year strategy to promote comprehensive peace operations for youth.
The statement also pointed out that Qatar will host in less than a year from now the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East and the Arab region, and which is organized within the conviction of the state and its wise leadership of the important role of sport in achieving sustainable development and in promoting the values of peace and understanding between peoples.
In conclusion, the statement reiterated the State of Qatar's commitment to support all efforts made to promote a culture of peace and non-violence for the benefit of all humanity.
