Qatar Participates in Ministerial Meeting of Friends of Sudan Group

The State of Qatar participated on Wednesday via video conferencing in the ministerial meeting of the Friends of Sudan Group, which was hosted by the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani represented the State of Qatar in the meeting.

The participation of the State of Qatar in the meeting came in support of sustainable peace paths in Sudan and achieving economic stability and prosperity during this critical period of its history, within the framework of regional and international coordination.

In its speech to the meeting, the State of Qatar affirmed respect to Sudan's sovereignty, political independence, unity and integrity of its region, non-interference in its internal affairs, and aspirations of the Sudanese people to live in a democratic country that enjoys security, stability, and prosperity.

It stressed that there is no military solution to conflicts, but rather through dialogue and negotiations and the importance of addressing the root causes of this conflict.

The State of Qatar underlined the importance of not competing over Sudan. It called for unity, cooperation, and coordination of regional and international efforts to achieve sustainable peace in it.

At the end of its speech, the State of Qatar reiterated its support for the ongoing mediation efforts in Juba, the capital of the Republic of South Sudan, aimed at achieving peace in Sudan, praising the progress made by the mediation and expressed its aspiration for more cooperation with it.
