Qatar Permanent Delegation to UN, Doha International Institute for Family Organize Seminar on Combating Poverty

New York/Information Office/ 08 February 02017/ Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, and the Doha International Institute for Family have organized a seminar on "Combating poverty: the case of investment in programs and policies, family-oriented,". The seminar was held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, on the sidelines of the 55the session of UN Committee for Social Development, in which the State of Qatar holds the position of Deputy chair of the Committee, representing Asian and Indian Ocean Grouping.
HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations in an opening speech has underscored the pivotal role of the family in the social development.
In this regard, HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia highlighted a variety of programs and policies geared towards the family in Qatar, stressing the need to recognize the role of primary and decisive role of the family in the implementation of sustainable development goals for 2030.
She also pointed to the leading role played by the State of Qatar as a facilitator of the consultations on the resolution, "International Year of the Family" resolution, in the United Nations General Assembly, referring also to the resolution adopted by the Third Committee during the 71st session of the General Assembly, where it had called on Member States to invest in a variety of family-oriented policies and programs, as tools to combat poverty and to support the implementation of the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
