Doha, May 11, 2025
The State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt welcome the announcement by the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) of its agreement to release American hostage Edan Alexander. They regard this as a gesture of goodwill and a positive step toward resuming negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, securing the release of prisoners and detainees, and ensuring the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to address the dire conditions in the Strip.
Both countries stress the urgent need to end the war in Gaza to prevent further humanitarian consequences. They call for sincere and good-faith efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region.
Qatar and Egypt reaffirm their continued joint efforts in mediating the situation in the Gaza Strip, in coordination with the United States of America. Their aim is to ease the suffering of civilians and help establish the conditions necessary for a comprehensive ceasefire, ultimately bringing an end to the war and the humanitarian crisis it has caused.
