Intervention by His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, before the meeting titled "Peace Day Effort: An Effort for Peace in the Middle East"

Excellencies,

I would like to begin by expressing my sincere appreciation to our esteemed hosts for convening this valuable initiative - our colleagues in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the League of Arab States and the E.U. - who each have an important role to play in the promotion of peace in our region.

I would also like to extend my appreciation to Secretary-General Guterres’ for joining us today, which reflects the United Nations’ commitment as a crucial partner for peace-making in the Middle East.

The ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine represents a model of colonial occupation that has caused one of the worst ongoing humanitarian crises … with conditions in the occupied territories reaching unprecedented severity.

Qatar has made countless calls for peace in Palestine... And I would like to reiterate here our firm belief that peace, stability, and security will only be achieved in our region through the adoption of a just and comprehensive settlement based on international legitimacy.

We must assume our humanitarian, moral, and legal responsibilities and take appropriate measures for the Palestinians to obtain their legitimate rights… most important of which is their right to self-determination, return, and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

For its part, the State of Qatar remains steadfast in its commitment to contribute - alongside our partners - to all sincere peace efforts aimed at ending the occupation and achieving peace in Palestine and the Middle East.

I wish both the hosts and working groups of this initiative the best of luck in fulfilling their noble goals.

 Thank you.
