The joint press conference of His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs with the Leader of the new administration of Syria

Firstly, I am very pleased to be here today in Damascus, the capital of the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic, and for the resumption of  Qatari-Syrian relations after an unfortunate interruption of 13 years.

I convey the greetings of His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar to you and to the brotherly Syrian people. Congratulations on the victory of the Syrian revolution, and I extend my sincere gratitude for your warm hospitality and reception.

We welcome the positive steps taken by the new Syrian administration to maintain civilian safety, stabilize state institutions, and ensure the continuity of public services. We affirm that the State of Qatar will support all these steps and continue its assistance to the brotherly Syrian people.

Our meeting today comes as we stand on the threshold of a new phase in Syria's history, a phase of rebuilding, development, and stability. The State of Qatar extends its hand to our Syrian brothers for a future partnership that, God willing, will benefit both brotherly nations.

In recent years, unfortunately, a large part of the Syrian population has sought refuge in various countries. We see today, thank God, a new hope in Syria. We hope, God willing, to participate with you in building the state, so that our brothers who have sought refuge in foreign countries can return.

Today, the needs to continue providing public services to the Syrian people are indeed essential requirements, and we affirm our standing with you.

On the practical front, we will also provide the necessary technical support to reactivate the required infrastructure, along with support for the electricity sector. This agreement includes supplying energy with a capacity of 200 megawatts and gradually increasing it to more than ten regions in Syria. We look forward to the future partnership between our two countries.

The humanitarian situation in Syria requires the concerted efforts of the international community and the continued provision of support, as well as the urgent need to consider lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria, as they have negative effects on the growth of this support from nations.

I would also like to emphasize, in this context, that the Israeli occupation's seizure of the buffer zones is a reckless and condemnable act, and it must withdraw immediately.

In conclusion, I would like to affirm that the State of Qatar, will always remain alongside the Syrian people in their pursuit of peace and justice, and reaffirms its constant readiness to cooperate with the new Syrian administration, on various international files, including the lifting of sanctions.

I also confirm the Amir's reception of your kind invitation to Damascus, and he will visit you in the near future.

Thank you.
