The joint press conference of His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani with the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs

Key Points from the Press Conference of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, During His Visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt

Cairo – Wednesday, November 27, 2024

Your Excellency, I would like to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude for your generous hospitality, warm reception, and for organizing all the arrangements for this visit. The meetings held with His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Prime Minister have marked significant milestones in the bilateral relations between our two countries. During today’s visit, we discussed a range of important topics, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation, investment, and various joint projects. We also reviewed the progress of Qatari investments previously made in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Of course, we hope that today’s visit will serve as an important milestone, with further progress to be made through ongoing discussions with the working teams, as agreed upon with the Prime Minister. These consultations will continue to strengthen and enhance trade and economic cooperation between our two countries. Additionally, we addressed how to expand and deepen our collaboration in humanitarian efforts, particularly in light of the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip and Sudan. We have agreed with our colleagues in the Arab Republic of Egypt to work together on joint projects aimed at providing humanitarian support to our brothers.

We also had the opportunity to discuss the upcoming humanitarian conference, scheduled for December 2nd in the Arab Republic of Egypt, focused on Gaza. We look forward to participating in this important event and offering all possible support. Today's discussions with His Excellency the President and His Excellency the Minister provided an important opportunity to address the regional situation, particularly the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. We have long warned that such conflicts, if left unchecked, could escalate and directly impact all countries in the region—an unfortunate reality we are witnessing today. It is of utmost importance to the State of Qatar that we maintain continuous consultation with our brothers in the Arab Republic of Egypt, especially concerning negotiations to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible. We also agreed that, in the coming period, there should be intensified coordination between Qatar, Egypt, and other sister Arab nations to ensure a unified approach and clear vision regarding regional developments. As His Excellency the Minister highlighted, we discussed the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, and we hope this will lead to a genuine ceasefire, with its positive effects extending to Gaza. Our collective goal is to reach an agreement in Gaza that will bring an end to the suffering of the people there as soon as possible.

In conclusion, Your Excellency, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous hospitality. Today, we have been deeply touched by your kindness, as well as by the warm reception from His Excellency the President and the Prime Minister.

Thank you
