Joint Press Conference between His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and His Excellency Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

At the outset, I would like to extend a warm welcome to my brother, His Excellency Mr. Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the sisterly Republic of Türkiye, to his second home, Qatar. We highly value this visit, which reflects the depth of the relations between our two countries and the strategic partnership that we have built over decades.

This visit comes at a time of unprecedented escalation in the region, and, regrettably, ongoing Iranian attacks against neighboring countries, in the context of the Iranian-American confrontation.

The conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States of America, along with continued Iranian attempts to draw the region into this conflict, was a central focus of our discussions.

During our meeting, we stressed the importance of joint action among all our countries to condemn this aggression, to call for its immediate cessation, and to urge Iran to comply with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, which clearly require Iran to halt these attacks and this approach of expanding the conflict in the region.

We also condemn in the strongest possible terms the attacks carried out against the sisterly Republic of Türkiye by Iran, and we affirm that these continued actions and the expansion of the conflict will not serve the objectives of security and stability in the region.

Furthermore, we addressed the attack that took place yesterday on the energy complex in Ras Laffan. Regrettably, this act of sabotage reflects an aggressive and irresponsible policy, and constitutes a dangerous escalation by the Iranian side, despite the fact that the State of Qatar, from the very first moment of the Israeli attacks on Iranian energy facilities and infrastructure, condemned those actions. The Iranian response to that Israeli attack was, however, to directly target the State of Qatar.

These attacks form part of an extended series targeting both military and civilian sites over the past two weeks, the latest of which was the incident at the Ras Laffan energy complex yesterday.

Thankfully, there were no casualties, and a team is currently assessing the damage. However, this attack has significant implications for global energy supplies.

Such attacks bring no direct benefit to any State; rather, they inflict harm on peoples and have a direct impact on civilian populations.

There have, regrettably, been continued Iranian claims that these attacks target American interests or U.S. bases in the State of Qatar and in other countries in the region. These claims are rejected and cannot be accepted under any justification.

The clearest evidence of this is that yesterday’s attack targeted a natural gas facility in the State of Qatar, which constitutes a source of livelihood for the Qatari people—not only for the Qatari people, but also, as a result of this attack, for millions of people whom the State of Qatar supports.

Such hostile acts, their continuation, and the expansion of the scope of war will lead only to further escalation in the region. The State of Qatar has consistently called for dialogue, diplomacy, and a return to reason.

Unfortunately, reason appears to be absent at this time. This has also been reflected in the obstruction of maritime navigation, restrictions on freedom of passage, and threats to vessels and tankers and their safety in a vital waterway represented by the Strait of Hormuz. We reaffirm that the security of the region is a collective responsibility, and that all States must uphold and be worthy of this responsibility.

We also reiterate the importance of an immediate halt to Iranian attacks on countries in the region and a general de-escalation, in order to prevent the region from descending into more dangerous cycles of conflict.

Your Excellency, I stress the importance of continued coordination and consultation between us and the Republic of Türkiye. I thank Türkiye for its consistently supportive positions toward the State of Qatar and for its support of security and stability in the region and the world.

Türkiye has long-standing, well-recognized positions in support of the State of Qatar. In Qatar, both the Government and the people are grateful for these positions and appreciative of the sisterly Republic of Türkiye.

In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that this ongoing war must be brought to an immediate end. The attacks must cease immediately, as it is clear to all who stands to benefit most from this war and from drawing the region into this conflict. Unfortunately, what is happening now serves those agendas.

Thank you.
