Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets U.S. Secretary of State

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met here today with HE U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, during the visit His Excellency is making to the United States of America.

The meeting dealt with the strategic ties between the State of Qatar and the United States, as well as the means to enhance them. It also saw a review of a number of regional and international issues of joint interest, particularly Libya, Sudan, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The two sides agreed on the importance of reaching a political resolution in Libya, ending the aggression on Tripoli, and the immediate return to the political route.

The two sides also stressed the importance of having the State of Qatar and the U.S. continue their cooperation to achieve a reconciliation and establish peace in Afghanistan, in the framework of Qatar's efforts to facilitate talks between the U.S. and Taliban, and the importance of concerted counter-terrorism efforts. On Iraq, the two sides agreed on the importance of supporting the country's stability.
