Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Participates in Paris Conference to Combat Terrorist Financing

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani participated today in Paris Conference to Combat Terrorist Financing, in the French capital, Paris.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani delivered a presentation at a roundtable entitled "Combating the Financing of Terrorism More Effectively: What Are Aspects of Cooperation We Need?", with the participation of a number of ministers and officials.

HE the Minister highlighted the State of Qatar's efforts in the fight against terrorism, along with other Member States, to combat and drain sources of funding the ISIS (Daesh) to support and dismantle the Organization's economic structure to prevent the flow of foreign terrorist fighters and their border crossings, as well as the need for commitment of the international community to continue combating terrorism.

HE the Minister stressed the need to unify the concept of terrorism internationally so as not to be politicized and employed by some governments to achieve political gains and legitimize their behavior towards their peoples and other countries.

In this context, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani highlighted the importance of developing the domestic legal frameworks of countries to ensure the independence of the judiciary and not to misuse the pretext of the war on terrorism, in exchange, the rule of law is sacrificed, leading to instability.

" The international cooperation has proved effective in developing mechanisms to detect the flow of illicit funds and the importance of continuing to exchange information and intelligence related to the (Daesh) organization so as to facilitate its elimination," HE the Minister said..

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs called for intensifying regional and international efforts to fight terrorism, combat its funding and combat violent extremism, away from political maneuvers, media propaganda and political exploitation of the technical institutions concerned with combating terrorism, money laundering, terrorism financing and violent extremism.
