Qatar to Co-Chair Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region

 Doha/Information Office/ 03 April 2017/ The State of Qatar will co-chair on Tuesday a high-level international conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region at the European Union headquarters in Brussels.
HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani will chair Qatar's delegation to the two-day meeting. The delegation includes diplomats and representatives from the government, civil society, funds and Qatari donors to highlight Qatar's efforts in support of the Syrian people and to explore peaceful and sustainable solutions to the Syrian crisis.
Alongside Qatar, the European Union, the United Nations, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, and Kuwait, will co-chair the Brussels Conference, in addition to representatives of 70 States and international and community organizations.
HE the Foreign Minister, alongside foreign ministers of the above mentioned countries, the UN Secretary-General and the EU presidency, will take part in the opening of the ministerial meeting on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday, HE the Foreign Minister will also co-chair a meeting devoted to the follow-up to the outcome of the London Conference in support of the Syrian people, especially the Syrian refugees, with the foreign ministers of Germany and Britain.
The conference will seek to agree on a political declaration calling for finding solutions to the Syrian crisis, supporting the Syrian people, holding accountable those who have committed grave violations and participating in supporting the political process to cease fire and the transitional process.
The conference will also discuss the reconstruction in Syria and the right of return of the displaced. It will call for supporting the UN and regional assistance mechanism with resources, and will highlight the role of countries in supporting the Syrian refugees, including the great efforts exerted by the GCC countries.
