HE Qatar's FM Participates in OIC Meeting

Jeddah/ 18 June 2014/ HE Qatar's Foreign Minister Dr Khalid Bin Mohamed Al Attiyah has expressed thanks and sincerest appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over the preparation and organization of the 41st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is currently held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In his address before the opening session, HE Dr. Al Attiyah said, "We are sure that you spare no effort to achieve solidarity between our countries and realize progress that leads to strengthen positions of the Muslim world. HE the minister who leads Qatar's delegation to the meeting, praised Guinea's distinguished efforts and contributions during its presidency of the previous session and He also expressed sincerest thanks to the HE OIC Secretary General Iyad Amin Madani , wishing him success in his new mission. HE Qatar's Foreign Minister lauded outstanding efforts and initiatives the former Secretary General of OIC, Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu exerted during his tenure to enhance and empower the OIC to achieve its objectives and to fulfill its mission. HE Dr. Al Attiyah further said, "We meet today while the Islamic world is witnessing growing challenges and consecutive events, which attache a great responsibility on our organization to support the Islamic peoples and help them to overcome the crises ." Further, Al Attiyah pointed out that the formation of a Palestinian national reconciliation government carries a lot of aspirations and hopes for the Palestinian people and the Islamic nation to sustain pillars of national unity and to support the struggle of the Palestinian people to face the challenges resulting from the Israeli occupation and to complete elements of building an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital on the basis of the 1967 borders. HE the Qatari senior official went on to say, "while the Palestinian reconciliation government was creating favorable conditions for the success of the peace process, it had faced Israeli intransigence and persistance to continue in construction of settlements and its attempts to change the demographic nature of the Palestinian land. HE the Qatari FM pointed to the plan of the Israeli occupation authorities to build 1,500 settlement units in the West Bank, including occupied East al quds , as well as the extremist Israeli settlers' attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, which poses a serious threat to all international efforts made to achieve a just peace, and represents a flagrant violation of the international law and international legitimacy resolutions. The Qatari senior official meantime called upon all the participants to take a firm stand to put an end to the Israeli violations of the rights of the Palestinian people , their territories and holy sites. HE the minister said the Syrian regime is still practicing its oppressive and brutal policies against Syrian regime , disregarding principles of the Islamic Shari'a and exploiting weakness of the UN Security Council to take resolutions obliging the Syrian regime to respect international law, international humanitarian law. By virtue of OIC's responsibility , we should unify efforts to adopt all available options in regard to the United Nations Charter and international law to save the Syrian people and put an end to their suffering . During the past period to support , OIC supported unity and stability of Iraq ,he added , saying the serious events and disturbing taking place now in Iraq , which has become a threat to Iraqi people and its territorial integrity, highlighting the importance of continued support for Iraqi people. In conclusion, HE Dr. Al-Attiyah proposed setting up of OIC Peace and Security Council which is tasked with the move to find solutions to what may be taking place in OIC Member States , stressing that Qatar is ready to work with the OIC and the Member States in this regard.
