Qatar Stresses Necessity of Keeping 7th Item on Palestine as Main Item on Human Rights Council's Agenda
Geneva - Media & Communication Dept. - 04 October 2023
The State of Qatar stressed the necessity of keeping the 7th item on Palestine as a main item on the agenda of the Human Rights Council and participating in it, because of its great importance in monitoring and documenting crimes and human rights violations committed by Israel, the "occupying power," against the brotherly Palestinian people.
This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah today, during the General Debate on Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories, within the 54th Regular Session of the Council.
Her Excellency said that the year 2022 was, as UN reports indicated, bloody in occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank, and that the same reports also warned that the year 2023 would be even bloodier as violations, attacks and killings against Palestinians at the hands of Israeli forces and Israeli settlers increased. The Israeli occupation and its extremist governments also continued their settlement and racist policies, attacks on religious sanctities, attempts to Judaize the city of Jerusalem and change its identity, and continued to impose the unjust siege on the Gaza Strip, in a flagrant violation of relevant international laws and agreements, and an insistence on undermining the foundations of the two-state solution.
Her Excellency called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, and to take all necessary measures and measures to protect the Palestinians, stop the aggression, violations and crimes committed against them, and hold those responsible accountable.
It also affirmed the State of Qatar's determination to continue providing political, humanitarian and development support to the brotherly Palestinian people, until they achieve all their legitimate and inalienable rights, especially the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, viable state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
