Director of the Department of International Organizations : The United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries is an opportunity to review the international community's support for achieving sustainable development

His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Khalfan Al Mansouri, Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that the State of Qatar's hosting of the United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, in its fifth edition, during the period from 5 to 9 March, is an opportunity to review the solidarity and support of the international community to achieve sustainable development for the least developed countries, and prosperity and stability at the global and regional levels.

His Excellency said that the conference represents an opportunity for concerted international efforts to accelerate sustainable development in the least developed countries, noting that the conference is held once every ten years, and provides opportunities for these countries to benefit from international efforts to support the available capabilities and achieve the desired goals.

His Excellency pointed out that the convening of the United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, in its fifth edition, comes after the Covid-19 pandemic, which paralyzed the entire world, and at a time when natural disasters and climate change crises have increased. He also believes that this conference is a platform for the international community to show its solidarity and support for the countries that are most in need and to reduce the damage caused in order to achieve sustainable development. He also noted that the 46 least developed countries in the world are striving to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

His Excellency stressed that the high-level participation in the conference indicates the keenness of the member states of the United Nations to unify international efforts and solidarity in order to achieve sustainable development.

He said: “We are fully prepared to receive partners from all over the world, and we are pleased that Doha is the capital of multilateral international action.” He highlighted that UN offices have begun their work in Doha, and the "United Nations House" will be inaugurated on the sidelines of the conference on the least developed countries. This confirms that the State of Qatar values its strategic partnership with the United Nations.

He continues: “The State of Qatar welcomes all its distinguished guests to Doha, and will join efforts to provide the best means of hospitality and to ensure the success of the conference.
