The State of Qatar Participates in the Paris International Conference for Libya

The State of Qatar participated in the Paris International Conference for Libya, which was held in the French capital Paris, under the chairmanship of France, Italy and Germany, and in cooperation with the United Nations.

The State of Qatar was represented in the meeting by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

HE the Minister of State of Foreign Affairs said during the State of Qatar's speech at the conference that Qatar is sparing no effort in realizing the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, stability, and prosperity. He highlighted the cooperation which exists with Libya's interim government of national unity in many fields.

His Excellency expressed appreciation for international efforts, particularly that of the United Nations, in facilitating the progress of the political process under Libyan leadership in order to reach the desired comprehensive settlement, in addition to supporting the election process, and monitoring the ceasefire.

His Excellency noted that reaching a sustainable settlement and achieving stability in Libya requires that all Libyans work to maintain the positive steps achieved over the past period. He added that it also requires strengthening security stability, maintaining the ceasefire in with a 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission, guaranteeing the implementation of a road map that was a result of the Libyan political dialogue forum in Tunisia, holding free and fair elections on schedule, continuing to build state institutions, providing basic services, and providing economic development and social services to the Libyan people.

He said that the international community must continue its efforts to maintain Libya's sovereignty and independence, and support the interim government of national unity in carrying out its role and facing the economic and financial challenges, as well as the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic and the conditions of refugees and internally-displaced persons.

HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs thanked the French Republic, Germany, Italy, and the UN for organizing the conference that gathered all of Libya's international partners in supporting political, security, and economic stability in Libya.
