El Espino School in El Salvador Opened with Support from Qatar

San Salvador / Information Office / March 25

Acting Charge d'Affaires at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in El Salvador Tariq Othman Al Othman participated in the opening ceremony of El Espino school in the municipality of Comasagua in the Republic of El Salvador, with the support of the State of Qatar. The opening coincides with the imminent start of the return of students to schools that were closed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The ceremony was attended by HE Minister of Education of El Salvador Karla Hanania.

The State of Qatar provided this support after the tropical storm, floods and torrents that struck El Salvador in 2011, and destroyed a large number of infrastructure.

The construction of El Espino school is not the first project that received the State of Qatar's support. Qatar had provided humanitarian aid to El Salvador through the Qatar Fund for Development to help it address the effects of the COVID-19, in addition to a range of other assistance.

In her speech on this occasion, El Salvador's Minister of Education thanked the State of Qatar for this support. It is the fruit of a joint effort with the State of Qatar that has been invested in purchasing the plot of land on which the school was built, she said, adding that this educational center is full of hope and they are very happy with the return of the students to the classroom.

In a speech on this occasion, Tariq Othman Al Othman said that the support provided by the State of Qatar contributed to the purchase of the land on which the school was built, as well as the design of facilities that include teaching halls for the stages of basic education and pre-school education, administration, computer lab and the special section for preparing meals and the entertainment center, as well as purchasing equipment, furniture and computers.

This project, he added, is the result of a joint effort between the Embassy of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Education of El Salvador. It will contribute to ensuring the social development of the Salvadoran people, as a continuation of the approach based on making education at the forefront of Qatar's policy.

Al Othman reiterated the State of Qatar's commitment to continue supporting the friendly people of El Salvador and promoting the educational development of Salvadoran children, adding that the opening of this school confirms that every child receives his right to educational services, which is a step on the road to achieving the sustainable development goals.

For her part, the student Kela expressed her happiness on behalf of the rest of the students, saying it is an honor for them that their school was taken into consideration. Our municipality is modest and simple, but it has a vision for the future, and we know that only through education can we change our lives, she said, expressing thanks and appreciation to Qatar for undertaking this noble act to build their new school.

It is noteworthy that the embassy announced, during the visit, that it had donated various sports and educational equipment requested by the school.
