Ambassador Al Emadi: Qatar Pledges to Provide $60 Million to Solve Electricity Crisis in Gaza

HE Chairman of Qatar's Gaza Reconstruction Committee Ambassador Mohammed Al Emadi, stated that the State of Qatar has pledged to provide an amount of $60 million to finance the project to supply the Gaza Strip with the gas necessary to solve the electricity crisis.
During the meeting held on Wednesday via video conference with the Prime Minister of Palestine Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, and the representative of the European Union to Palestine Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff, Ambassador Al Emadi affirmed that this amount will be allocated for extending gas pipelines from the Israeli side, while the EU pledged to provide an amount of EUR 20 million to complete the extensions inside the Gaza Strip.
For his part, the Palestinian Prime Minister praised the Qatari and European support to complete the project, stressing on the importance of this project, which aims to transport gas from the Israeli side to supply the power plant in the Gaza Strip. He affirmed that this project would provide higher electrical capacity and achieve regularity of the current in the Gaza Strip, which means solving the electricity problem radically.
The meeting discussed plans to develop the only power station in Gaza and mechanisms for converting it to work on gas as an alternative to liquid fuel.
