UN General Assembly Adopts Political Declaration on Commemoration of UN's 75th Anniversary

The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Political Declaration on the commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations at the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly that took place on Monday.
The State of Qatar was the first to deliver its speech at the high-level meeting, represented by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in appreciation of the policy, vision and wisdom of the State of Qatar's leadership, which enjoys balanced relations with the countries of the world, and is based on mutual respect and cooperation to achieve the goals of the United Nations.
HE President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkir expressed deep thanks, after the Declaration was adopted at the end of the opening session, to HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani and the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Sweden for their stewardship in facilitating negotiations for the draft of the Declaration
The Declaration calls for cooperation in facing common international challenges, and reaffirms the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, principle of multilateralism, promotion of peace, prevention of conflicts, respect for international law, the rule of law and justice, promotion of human rights and the sustainable development of peoples, equality between states in sovereignty and independence, respect for the territorial integrity of states, non-interference in internal affairs, and peaceful settlement of disputes.
The declaration includes a pledge by world leaders to exert the utmost efforts to address all current and emerging challenges, in order to build a world of peace, security, prosperity and development that also promotes human rights, which are the main pillars on which the United Nations was established.
World leaders affirm in the declaration that there is no other international organization that gives hope to achieving a better world and future that everyone aspires to.
