Qatar Participates in Meeting of Political Directors of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS

The State of Qatar too part in the meeting of the Political Directors of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, which was held at the French Foreign Ministry headquarters in Paris.

The delegation of the State of Qatar was chaired by HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Ambassador Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani.

In his speech at the meeting, HE Ambassador Al Qahtani stressed the importance of conflict prevention and the need to use means of diplomatic prevention and good offices and mediation in dealing with conflicts, which he considers to be one of the most serious and root causes of terrorism and extremism. He noted the existence of terrorism groups in areas of wars, conflicts and political tensions, especially in Yemen, Somalia, Libya and Afghanistan.

HE the Ambassador underlined that the State of Qatar is making strong efforts in this regard through its good offices in Afghanistan, the ongoing negotiations in Doha between the United States and Taliban, and said that the fight against terrorism is a key element in those negotiations.

Meanwhile, HE Ambassador Al Qahtani stressed that absence of a peaceful solution to the current situation in Sudan would lead to the deterioration of the situation which in turn brings in terrorism and extremism to the country. He referred in this context to the strenuous efforts exerted by the State of Qatar to establish peace in Sudan in general, and in Darfur region in particular.

HE the Special Envoy also to highlighted the question of legal accountability for ISIS crimes and the importance of bringing those atrocities to justice, emphasizing the call for States to repatriate and bring to justice their warring citizens from conflict areas and the importance of their rehabilitation and reintegration through appropriate criminal justice programs.

HE the Ambassador also called for avoiding the war of terminology, especially with regard to the description of the areas that were controlled by the ISIS as a "succession", and described of terrorists as "Mujahideen" or the ISIS as the "Islamic state".

HE the Special Envoy called on the Coalition countries to adopt the guidelines adopted by the Global Coalition in this regard on September 24 last year in order to ensure that those theses launched by the ISIS, which have nothing to do with Islam, are not legitimized.
